Never mind everybody in the club; in 2004 the whole world was getting’ “Tipsy.” Teenage recording artist J-Kwon had the streets, clubs, and crossover radio on smash with the lead single off his debut album, Hood Hop.

Despite teen drinking being illegal, “Tipsy” would go on to reach instant success, peaking at #1 on the US Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart and just falling short of the #1 slot on the Billboard Hot 100, peaked at #2. The hard-hitting banger also experienced success internationally by reaching #4 in the UK and #5 in Australia.

Unfortunately for the St. Louis native, “Tipsy” wasn’t strong enough to build him a buzz past the song. On the music tip, we haven’t heard from J-Kwon since. Athough legally, that’s a different story. The rapper would eventually land himself in trouble with the law for missing child support payments. To add salt to the wound, J-Kwon found out the child wasn’t his after being released from prison. Ouch.
