Bump J

Bump J is a rapper from Chicago, Illinois. Bump was discovered in 2003 by Chicago producer X-treme Beats and linked him up with label executive Free Maiden. Maiden facilitated a deal between Bump and Atlantic, which led to Bump J’s first single “Move Around,” produced by Kanye West.

The single was featured in the video game Madden NFL 06 as well as a McDonald’s commercial in 2005. In 2006, Bump J and Atlantic parted ways due to creative differences. The following year, Bump J robbed a Chase Bank in Oak Park, Illinois for $108,135. Bump was arrested for the crime nearly two years later after being pulled over for a routine traffic stop, putting his music career on hold while he served time in federal prison on a ten year sentence.

In an over-the-phone interview with XXL in 2006, Bump says that prison has helped him mature, and that he planned to return to the rap game upon his release. Bump was released in 2017.
