Freddie Gibbs is a rapper from east side of Gary, Indiana. Before he started taking rap seriously, Gibbs had considered being a professional athlete and had been attending Ball State on a football scholarship, but was eventually kicked out of college. In 2004, he dropped his first two mixtapes, Full Metal Jackit & Full Metal Jackit Vol. II. He was signed to Interscope in 2006, but was dropped from the label within a year after a change in management at Interscope. He went on to release five more mixtapes before being featured on the XXL Freshman Class of 2010. At the time he was featured, Gibbs says that he was still heavily into robbery and selling crack.

Before the end of 2012, Gibbs, dropped three more mixtapes and two EPs, as well as signed to Young Jeezy’s CTE label. However, he left CTE within a year. Since then, Gibbs has released 3 studio albums: ESGN, Shadow of a Doubt, and You Only Live 2wice.

Gibbs is engaged to Erica Dickerson, the daughter of NFL hall of famer Eric Dickerson. Since having a daughter with his fiancée, he has placed a high priority on his family. In 2016, Freddie Gibbs was arrested before performing a show in France on a warrant issued by Austria for a sexual abuse charge from 2015. After being in jail for weeks, he was released on bail and acquitted of the allegations.
