Brooklyn, New York

A Brooklyn native, Lenny Grant started rapping as an adolescent, but when his mother passed when he was 13, Grant moved away from rap and became more involved in the streets. Around the age of 18, (Grant was on the run for allegedly shooting somebody, when) he heard the Ruff Ryders on Hot 97 and pulled up to the radio station while they were there. He began rapping for them, which led to Ruff Ryders giving Uncle Murda his first deal, (which allegedly involved “$10,000 and a bag of guns"). Murda got his second deal when he linked up with Chris Lighty and was recognized by Jay-Z, who signed him to Roc-A-Fella Records in 2007. However, he left Roc-A-Fella shortly after Jay-Z cut ties with Def Jam. In 2016, Murda was signed by 50 Cent to G-Unit. Since 2005, Uncle Murda has released 14 mixtapes, as well as numerous singles and features.
