Wifisfuneral is a rapper from Palm Beach, Florida. Wifisfuneral can also be considered a rap duo, with the other half being DJ Scheme, AKA Gabe Guerra, Isaiah’s DJ and creative collaborator. DJ Scheme also works with the rest of the collective they’re in, called Very Rare.
The “Wifi” part of his name refers to the fact that he wants to be recognized worldwide, and the “funeral” is a reference to DJ Scheme’s best friend committing suicide around the age of 14. It was around the time DJ Scheme and Wifi had started getting closer. Wifi grew up around hip-hop. Although his father was an MC in the early 90s, his parents split when he was a toddler, which led to his relocation to Palm Beach, Florida. His stepfather put him onto hip-hop classics by the age of 14, but Wifi had written his first rap by the age of seven.
As a teenager, Wifi was dealing drugs and rapping on the side, but didn’t think it made sense to pursue music at the time. He has been in and out of several rap groups, and experimented with several different names, such as Casper Winter Jacket. By the time he dropped out of high school in his junior year, he was on track to make a name for himself in the music industry. He released his first official project in May 2016, titled, Black Heart Revenge. At the time, he had been addicted to uppers, but he has since claimed to be off all drugs other than weed and alcohol after overdosing multiple times in a brief period. In 2016, XXL called him a Florida artist to watch, and in 2017, he performed at SXSW. He signed to Interscope Records shortly after. Since then, Wifisfuneral landed a spot on the 2018 XXL Freshman Class roster.
