On Monday, Birdman made a post to Instagram that caused quite a stir among fans and news outlets. The post showed Birdman posing with Lil Wayne at the club, presumably Club LIV in Miami, with a caption that read “Me and my SON #YMCMBEAST”.

For those that are unaware, Birdman and Lil Wayne are currently engaged in an intense legal battle that has been going on for years. Back in 2015, Lil Wayne filed a $51 million lawsuit against Birdman for delaying the release of Tha Carter V and withholding millions in royalties that owed to him by Cash Money.

The drawn-out legal battle between Birdman and Lil Wayne has had numerous twist and turns, especially when it comes to the personal relationship between the two parties. Wayne has been an outspoken critic of Birdman and Cash Money since he took to Twitter to blame them for the delayed release of Tha Carter V. After filling his lawsuit, he’s said “F**k Cash Money” at not just one, but two concerts. After releasing his Free Weezy album exclusively through Tidal in July 2015, he shouted out Roc-A-Fella instead of Cash Money at another concert.

Even though Birdman has shown a little pettiness in the feud by throwing a drink on Wayne at one of his performances, his tone has been majoratively the opposite of Lil Wayne’s. He’s consistently downplayed any perceived beef whenever he spoke to on his situation with Wayne, and has constantly referred to him as his son throughout their friction. However, it should be noted that Birdman had been suspected to have played a role in an attempt on Wayne’s life back in 2015, but no type of conviction ever caught up with him for it.

Since the drama surrounding their feud has died down considerably as of late, Birdman’s recent post was an alarming development for a lot of onlookers. The seemingly friendly encounter that Birdman shared had a lot of people wondering if the post signified a new beginning in their relationship, but for those that have been following them closely, this type of display is nothing new.

Half a year after Wayne initially filed the lawsuit, Birdman can be seen referring to Wayne as his son in an interview with Angie Martinez, in which he says, “At the end of the day, no matter what my son do, he still my son, and I’ma support him as my son [in] whatever he do, I’m prepared to do that.” You can hear more of the 2015 interview above.

Another six months go by, and a photo pops up of the two together in a photo taken at Drake’s 2016 New Year’s Eve party. Less than three weeks after that, Birdman and Wayne are on stage at Club LIV together, where Birdman makes a passionate statement about his “son”. See for yourself in the video below.

After that, there was even another post of the two together, this time at the studio a couple days after the Club LIV announcement. The post has since been deleted, but you can see a screenshot of it in an article by Complexhere.

After that, static still sprang up here and there as the two continued to butt heads in their legal battle. With all of that history considered, it shouldn’t come as the biggest surprise that the two are able to set aside their differences and socialize without spite. Besides, Birdman and Lil Wayne have a lot more history outside of their legal battle, a lot of which is positive. That’s not to say that they’ll be buddy-buddy after the lawsuit is settled, but a certain amount of respect has been shown by each party for the other since they first started having issues.

In related news, Birdman guaranteed the release of Tha Carter V this year in an interview he did about a month ago with RapUpTV. A lot of fans remain skeptical about the claim, but there’s a glimmer of hope that the urban-legend-of-an-album will finally see the light of day soon.
