DMX is one of the most compelling characters in hip-hop history. He came out of the gate with a shot across the bow of jiggy-era rappers and reshaped rap in his barking, rough-and-tumble image.
Unfortunately, DMX couldn’t keep it together long enough to really reap the benefits of his stylistic shift of the rap marketplace. As other rappers rode his menacing badman image to greater heights than the Dark Man ever reached himself, the rapper was having trouble holding on to his life. These days DMX is much more likely to make headlines for a court case or a drug arrest than a hot new song. But you know we all love a comeback story and it looks like TV is ready to give ol’ Earl one.

The Show

The rapper just landed his own reality show. Tentatively titled In The Dog House, the new show will follow the rapper as he tries to get back to good. According to a press release, the show will follow a fresh-from-rehab X as he tries to make a new album and rekindle his relationships with his 15 children.
“I’m just excited to get back out there and show my fans that I’m still a force to be reckoned with in hip hop, and invite them into my vast world of spirituality and growth,” DMX said of the show.
ITDH is being produced by Kingdom Reign Entertainment — the same team behind Gucci Mane and Keshia Ka’oir’s big wedding special. KRE head Carlos King said that he’s excited for viewers to follow along with DMX’s attempted way back.
“Although DMX has been a lightning rod of controversy, he’s one of the greatest performers in all of music,” said King. “We’re thrilled to take this ride with him and look forward to helping him tell his story that we feel viewers will be intrigued by and startled to see.”
Legal Troubles

X is currently facing up to 44 years in prison if he’s found guilty of tax evasion. Authorities allege that he failed to pay up to $1.7 million in taxes in the early aughts. He turned himself in and bonded out, but he ran in to trouble when the courts caught him breaking the terms of his bond.
“He went to St. Louis without getting permission from the pretrial services officer,” X’s defense attorney Murray Richman told the New York Daily News at the time. “It was for a personal situation with regard to the lady he’s living with.”
X was sentenced to house arrest and then struck a deal to go to rehab instead, though a court date still looms. The new reality show will follow the star post-rehab as he tries to get his life in order as the possibility of going away for a very long time looms.
Richman maintains that X isn’t guilty of any wrongdoing. The attorney contends that X got taken for a ride by some people who didn’t have his best interests at heart. As X didn’t handle his own finances, Richman thinks the idea of him personally defrauding the government is ridiculous. The lawyer maintains that the actions didn’t come at the behest of Simmons.
“To say that he schemed to defraud the government is absurd,” the lawyer told NYDN.
