After visiting The Doctors, a talk show hosted by board certified doctors and physicians, it seems Halsey is a little closer to her female fans. The “Now or Never” artist spoke candidly about her experience with endometriosis, a condition where tissue grows outside the uterus rather than inside, which is diagnosed to one in 10 women.
“The thing with endometriosis is that it comes down to that doctors can tend to minimize the female experience when it comes to dealing with it,” Halsey — who wasn’t properly diagnosed until after she passed out in front of her tour bus last year — explained. “A lot of the time they can make you think it’s in your head.”
During this conversation, the artist also revealed that she suffered a miscarriage.
The loss took place only months after her diagnosis. “I was on tour, and I found out I was pregnant. And before I could really figure out what that meant to me and what that meant for my future, for my career, for my life, for my relationship, the next thing I knew I was on stage miscarrying in the middle of my concert,” she said.
The miscarriage led her to take her situation more seriously, undergoing surgery and getting an IUD afterwards. The 23-year-old also froze her eggs as a method to ensure a “bright future.”
In the most relatable way possible, the star spoke about feeling “like less of women” while battling reproductive issues. “Reproductive illness is so frustrating because it can really make you feel like less of a woman,” she began. “There’s a lot of times when you’re sitting at home and you just feel so terrible about yourself. You’re sick, you don’t feel sexy, you don’t feel proud, you don’t feel like there’s much hope.”
She went on to say that being progressive and “taking these measures” is her way of looking out for her future self.
In Good Company
Halsey isn’t the only one in favor of reaching out to females everywhere. In an admittedly different capacity, Amber Rose is known for empowering her female fans.
This time last year, the star — who is a huge advocator for the Slut Walk, “a transnational movement of protest marches calling for an end to rape culture, including victim blaming, and slut shaming of sexual assault victims”— put her vag on social media as an examaple of feminist strength and pride. She linked her website, AmberRoseSlutWalk.com, to the photo.
The post was taken down after about two houts because it violated Instagram’s policies about nudity, but while it was up, it got well over a couple thousand likes. However, it is probably still up on Twitter, as it apparently didn’t violate Twitter’s policies.
WIthin the picture’s firs 19 hours of being posted, it was retweeted over 27 thousand times and liked 56 thousand.
Jokes on Jokes
Even with the good intentions behind this photo, viewers still went ahead and made a few jokes. A Twitter user replied to Amber’s tweet of the photo, asking, “What y’all think wiz said when he seen this?” This question started a string of hilarious Wiz Khalifa giphs.
As many jokes as the photo received, no one can laugh at Amber Rose without her laughing too. She posted this fan-created meme to her Instagram and tweeted it on her Twitter with the caption “I’m so done with ya’ll Lol #baldheadscallywag #bringbackthebush” accompanied with tons of happy, laughing emojis.
She then called out Instagram for taking her photo down.
