The fact that Birdman still has some foes in the hip-hop world will have to wait until after his wedding. According to a trailer of Braxton Family Values, the rapper and record producer (né: Bryan Christopher Williams) is engaged to Toni Braxton.
“I have an announcement to make,” the “Breathe Again” singer tells her sisters in the clip. “I’m engaged!”
After knowing Birdman for 16 years, Toni is rocking a huge yellow diamond engagement ring. She flashed the rock in front of her sisters (and the camera), dripping with excitement.
With rumors that the couple had already gotten married just settling down, the news of their engagement isn’t surprising. What does seem to still shock everyone is the fact that Toni and Birdman are a thing in the first place. Evelyn Braxton, the mom and matriarch of the Braxton family, has always desired to keep her girls’ image as clean as possible, and most fans weren’t sure Birdman fit that bill.
Mamma Braxton definitely knows something the rest of the world doesn’t though.
“I don’t care what other people say”
“I don’t care what other people say about him he is a nice man,” the mom-of-six told the hosts of The Rickey Smiley Show in 2016. Referencing her future son-in-law’s interaction with Charlamagne the God and the rest of the Breakfast Club, Evelyn said that Birdman is “full of respect.”
“Put some ‘respek’ on it! I met him years ago, Toni’s known him for about 15 years… Ever since I’ve been knowing that young man, I think he’s just phenomenal,” she continued.
Though back in 2016, Toni and the “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy” rapper weren’t dating yet.
Forming a Bond
Diehard Toni fans know that the Secrets songstress was struggling with complications from Lupus for the better part of 2016. She battled her ailment while still going on with her tour, and Birdman “was there” for her platonically the whole time.
“When I was on tour in 2016 I was really sick, I had a really bad flare [referring to her Lupus]…there was a rumor that I died…every day I was on tour, he was there with me. If he left, he would come back,” Toni shared on The Angie Martinez Show. “We weren’t anything. He was my friend. He was there.”
When the duo became more than friends, things heated up quickly. Nowadays, Toni says she finds herself having to “bring him down” from extravagant dates so they can have normal one-on-one time.
