"Do it from the heart!"
Master P posted a video with some harsh words for comedian Kevin Hart, who recently started the “Kevin Hart challenge” and called on his celebrity friends to donate $25,000 to Hurricane Harvey victims.
Master P knows firsthand what kind of impact a catastrophic hurricane can have on a community. The New Orleans native was heavily involved in relief efforts in response to hurricane Katrina back in 2005 and has vowed to do anything he can for those affected by hurricane Harvey.
One thing he’s not buying into is the alleged “bullying” he’s been seeing from other celebrities, specifically Kevin Hart, to get other stars to donate to the cause. While the people of Houston need all the help they can get, Master P has expressed that it was inappropriate for Hart to call out celebrities by name to get them to donate, and one thing’s for sure, Master P is someone you don’t want to cross…
Kevin Hart’s Challenge
After hearing about the catastrophic damage caused by hurricane Harvey in Texas and the gulf coast, Kevin Hart proposed his own “viral challenge” (à la ice bucket challenge) to raise money for the Red Cross. In the video he specifically called out his celebrity friends The Rock, Steve Harvey, Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake and Jerry Seinfeld to match his donation of $25,000.
It should be noted that Master P was not called out to donate…
Master P’s Response
Master P didn’t necessarily condone Kevin Hart’s gesture, $25,000 is a lot of money that will go to great use for the victims of Harvey, but he certainly didn’t appreciate Kevin calling out others to do the same. P’s philosophy is that donations should come from the heart and never from pressure from other people.
“It’s not necessary, a lot of people are going to do what they want to do because it’s their money – we made a substantial donation – but that doesn’t matter what you do, what matters is that it comes from the heart.”
The Bigger Issue
While Master P may have had a point in calling out Kevin Hart for his lack of selflessness, even that didn’t change that fact that any donations are still greatly needed. He goes on to ask his viewers to do what they can, however great or small, to contribute to the relief efforts in a city very close to his heart.
Kevin Hart on the other hand, has gotten more of his famous friends like P. Diddy, as well as the folks he called out directly, to fork over hundreds of thousands of dollars towards recovery efforts, so you can’t say it was a total wash for the comedian’s viral challenge.
The bigger issue here however isn’t celebrity feuding over who gave more, it’s the fact that people in this country are in need of aid and support. By donating to organizations like The Red Cross or Salvation Army, you too can help and even the smallest amount counts… and hey, feel free to SHARE this and get your friends to help as well, just watch out for Master P calling you out on Instagram…
