It makes you wonder
Tisha Campbell-Martin and Martin Lawrence were spotted together for the first time since her mid-’90s harrasment lawsuit against the comedian. The sighting is helping to fuel rumors that Martin, the classic TV show that both Campbell-Martin and Lawrence starred in in the ‘90s, is due for a reboot.
Those rumors got started when Lawrence’s fiancee posted the show’s logo on Instagram and said that her favorite show might be coming back. Lawrence himself responded to the post with a peeping eyes emoji. Now, Martin himself has sent out a photo of three of the principal cast members getting together with a slick reference to one of the show’s most famous catchphrases on emblazoned on Campbell-Martin’s clothing.
“In the words of Ice Cube, today was a good day,” Martin wrote under the pics.
But their getting together was by no means a sure thing. The original series largely fell apart after Campbell-Martin sued Lawrence for “repeated and escalating” instances of sexual harassment.
In the lawsuit, Campbell said that she had to watch as Lawrence “became increasingly manic and volatile, and he would often, and easily, fly into uncontrollable fits of rage for no apparent or rational reason.”
Her fear of Martin, who she said repeatedly simulated sexual acts and shoved his tongue into her mouth against her will, began to have negative effects on Campbell.
“He humiliated and abused Campbell in front of the entire cast and crew on so many occasions that it reached the point where she needed to be hospitalized due to the stress he caused her,” the lawsuit said.
Campbell-Martin asked the writers to avoid writing anymore scenes that took place in the bedroom to avoid these situations. When they didn’t, she walked away from the show. She eventually agreed to come back under the condition that they couldn’t be on the set at the same time.
At the time of the lawsuit, Lawrence alleged that he was being used as a pawn in a contract dispute. He added that he was hurt by Campbell-Martin’s allegations.
“Martin has long been Tisha’s champion and protector, and is thus deeply hurt by these allegations,” his statement said. “There is no merit to the lawsuit, and it will be vigorously defended.”
Campbell-Martin’s attorney countered that that was all a load of nonsense.
“Mr. Lawrence’s statement refers to a ‘contract dispute’ between HBO and Miss Campbell that has never existed,” he said. “The financial terms of Miss Campbell’s current contract with HBO were agreed to quickly and amicably prior to the current season. The issues raised in the current litigation have nothing to do with any discontent with the financial agreement struck between the parties.”

The case was settled out of court and Martin shuttered soon thereafter.
Making the story all the more interesting, it was actually Tisha who confirmed the news of the Martin reboot in a coy interview with HipHollywood. It seems like Campbell-Martin is not just onboard, but possibly leading the charge for a new version of the classic sitcom.
We have to wonder how the Martin and Gina dynamic will play with the sheer amount of history between these two. Campbell-Martin had to install locks on her dressing room door for fear of her co-star in the bad, old days. We can’t imagine that’s entirely water under the bridge.
