No one saw that coming!
Nelly was accused of serious crimes earlier this year and vehemently denied the allegations. Now, after being arrested and booked on the charges, the rapper no longer has a case hanging over his head. The case fell apart for the oddest reason, the woman refused to assist prosecutors in putting together a case against Nelly.
The accuser will not be moving forward with the case against Nelly, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
“Within days of her initial report to police, the complainant, through her attorney, informed investigators from the Auburn police department that she did not wish to assist in prosecution or the investigation of Mr. Haynes,” the prosecutor’s office revealed in a statement to the New York Daily News.
“While we have reviewed the existing investigative material, without the assistance of the complainant, this office is unable to proceed or fully assess the merits of the case,” they added.
According to Karen Koehler, the attorney for the unnamed plaintiff, she refused to cooperate with prosecutors because she believed that the trial would not be fair. Koehler said in a statement that the woman “wishes she had not called 911 because she believes the system is going to fail her.”
She did not rescind her story about the night, our recapping of which is below:
“The Washington woman claimed that the rapper took advantage of her on his tour bus after they met at a nightclub.
She also claims that Nelly invited her to an after-party but instead took her to his tour bus. She says that when the rapper tried to have s*x with her, she declined. At that point, she says that the rapper told her to “shut up” and proceeded to have unprotected s*x with her.
She claims that she was offered money afterward, which she also declined. At that point, she was tossed off the bus, with someone on the bus tossing $100 at her.”
Nelly’s lawyer called the story false at the time.
“It does not surprise me that she wanted to have her story publicized. That is playbook 101 of a person with an agenda and clearly she has one,” he told TMZ. “The agenda is money, fame and notoriety. We will be able to show by objective evidence and unbiased witnesses that she has zero credibility.”
The move is a big win for Nelly, who maintained from the beginning that he was completely innocent, both in formal and more playful ways.
“I am confident that once the facts are looked at, it will be very clear that I am the victim of a false allegation,” he wrote on Twitter. “I do want to apologize to my loved ones for the embarrassment and for putting myself in a situation where I could be victimized by this false and defaming allegation.”
“In other words,” he said, “y’all know damm well I ain’t do no dumm s*** like this.”
Nelly was never charged with a crime and his booking was for “investigation of rape.” He has not responded to the news that the case has been dropped.
What do you think? Do you believe Nelly was innocent? Do you think that the woman truly believed so fully that she would not receive a fair trial that she dropped the case? Sound off in the comments and be sure to SHARE this article.
