Moving Up

Originally mentored by “I’m Not a Player” MC Big Pun, Remy Ma got her start in the early ’80s. She was set to do big things, even after Pun died. Following her initiation into Terror Squad with Fat Joe, Remy released her debut album There’s Something About Remy: Based on a True Story, which sold about 150 thousand units in its first year.

Soon afterwards though, Remy was sentenced to eight years in prison. The “Conceited” rapper was devastated, but upon her release in 2014 (after serving only six years of her sentence), she hit the ground running.

Coming three years after her release from Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women, Remy Ma has signed a multimillion-dollar record deal with Columbia Records.
