It's back on.
If anyone should be delivering Nicki Minaj’s eulogy, it should be someone who is actually still making hits. Cardi B, perhaps? What about Princess Nokia? But we guess Remy Ma works better for the beef-loving set. She recently delivered a savage eulogy for her fellow MC on an episode of Nick Cannon’s Wild N’ Out.
The rapper who famously beefed with Minaj – trading diss tracks like “Shether” and “No Frauds” – saw an opportunity to kickstart the beef again and she jumped all over it. During an improv game called eulogy where constestants are tasked with talking at a famous person’s funeral, the name Nicki Minaj came up. Though it was not her turn at the podium, the crowd chanted “Remy! Remy!” until she walked up and the man at the podium ceded the floor.
As he walked off with his shoulders slumped, Remy leaned into the mic and uttered a single word: “Shether.” The crowd went nuts at the reference to the seven-minute long diss track that touched on a million possible points that could hurt Minaj, including her rumored plastic surgery and her brother’s legal issues.
Remy kickstarted the beef back in February, attempting to start an old school rap beef with Nicki Minaj — who has completely taken Remy’s spot as the main representative of NYC women MCs. The shit-stirring rocketed Remy back into the spotlight for the first time in a while and even netted a chart-topping hit for Minaj.
For her part, Ma said that the track and the follow-up “Another One” were a response to Nicki’s cutthroat reputation in the industy.
“[‘Shether’] was a response. She started [the beef],” she said on The Wendy Williams Show. “I feel like it’s weird because she’s been doing this to a lot of females from Lil’ Kim to Mariah [Carey] to Taylor [Swift] to [Miley Cyrus], and no one says anything.”
“This person, just based on what I’m witnessing, is not a nice person,” she continued. “It was the behind-the-scenes things that you people will never know about…trying to keep me off of red carpets, trying to make sure awards don’t go to me or she’s not going to be in attendance, or trying to get people to make bad reports about my album sales, or just anything that I’m doing to make me look less and make her look better. I have a problem. When you’re trying to stop my bag, when you’re trying to stop me from taking care of my children, now, I have a problem with that.”
Nicki’s actual response came in the form of “No Frauds.” The track performed incredibly well for a diss track, moving down the same path as “Back To Back” where it functioned as a pop song first and a diss track second. While the song doesn’t feature the same level of viciousness as “Shether” – and it definitely doesn’t dissect things on a molecular level the way that Remy Ma’s ultra-long takedown does- it has a million times more replay value.
But it looks like Remy is trying to bring the beef back to the surface. Expect another brutal track in the near future.
