Was it profiling?
Plenty of people like to gripe about the amped up tensions and seriousness surrounding airline flights these days. It’s been a common joke since well before Ben Stiller did his whole “bomb bomb bomb” bit in Meet The Parents, and it’s still going strong.
Even if you’re the type of person to disagree with the deadly seriousness of the TSA, we’re pretty sure you’ve never been able to threaten to behead someone on a commercial flight without the police getting involved. Even in the pre-9/11 days, telling someone you are going to remove their head from their body would probably warrant a talking to.
That’s what Rich The Kid’s manager allegedly did while flying along with his client. According to reports from TMZ, the rapper got up to use the restroom when passengers were not allowed to move around the cabin. Flight attendants told him to return to his seat, but he refused. His manager got involved and allegedly threatened the flight attendants… with beheading.
By the time the plane got to the gate, the police were waiting for Kid and his manger. His manager was arrested and charged with making misdemeanor criminal threats. Afterwards, Rich The Kid said that the incident was the result of racial profiling in a video of his encounter with police.
“We get racially profiled on the plane ’cause I’m Black,” he said. “Do not ride American Airlines. This is Rich The Kid speaking, and I’m letting you know that American Airlines will racially profile you.”
American Airlines denied the claims in a statement to XXL.
“No racial profiling occurred,” a spokesperson for the company said, before explaining the situation as they saw it. “Law enforcement was called after two passengers verbally assaulted our crew and customers. One of those passengers was arrested by law.”
Rich The Kid is only the latest rapper to live-stream his interactions with police officers. Tory Lanez also streamed a roadside stop to his fans in the hopes that he would have proof for his probation officer as to why he was late for their meeting.
“Yo, let this be known,” he said as he filmed himself inside the car. “Because I know my probation officer bout to violate. Ms. Probation officer, I’m getting stopped.”
“I’m getting stopped right now,” he added. “I’m trying to make it on time but I’m getting stop. So you know. Don’t try to blaze me.”
In later videos, Lanez became upset at how long the officers were taking to process his information. “Them n*ggas taking too long about to make my probation officer violate my sh*t, son,” he continued. “She about to violate my sh*t. How you get stopped on your way to probation? That don’t make no sense. I wasn’t even driving fast.”
“What’s worse is these n*ggas know they can let me go right now,” he continued. “N*gga just called the other officer. For what, my n*gga? What I’m going to do to you? I’m one n*gga in a car. All my sh*t good. All my sh*t legit. Leave me the f*ck alone. I’m already dealing with you. Don’t make me deal with you twice.”
