BTY Young's killer won't escape justice
Last month we reported on the tragic murder of up and coming rapper, New Orleans’ own, BTY Young’n. Desmone Jerome, also the newest protege of infamous rapper Birdman, who was gunned down at a gas station in New Orleans’ Holly Grove area. At that time, no suspects had been identified, leaving many to believe that the case would go unsolved.
Thankfully, the New Orleans Police Department has named a suspect in the rapper’s untimely death. Darryl J. Bannister, Jr. is wanted by NOPD and will be charged with second-degree murder once he is finally in custody.
The New Orleans rapper made headlines last month for more than his affiliation with rap mogul Birdman. According to police reports, Jerome was at a Shell gas station when he was gunned down on April 29th.
At the time, police were unsure about suspects; though, information finally surfaced over the weekend. Cops were able to put a name to the man who possibly was the one to take the 27-year-old’s life, leaving behind his family and a newborn son to mourn the devastating loss.
A suspect is pinned
Thirty-one-year-old Darryl Bannister, Jr. will face second-degree murder charges once he is in custody. Bannister has some pretty serious priors attached to his name, including previously pleading guilty in a racketeering case against a NOLA street gang known as “The Taliban.”
The Tragic Aftermath
BTY Young’n was a notable member of Birdman’s Rich Gang clique; he showed lots of promise. The late rapper’s mother said that jealousy surrounding his rise to fame was most likely the reason for his untimely ending.
Perhaps the most heartbreaking element of this case is the fact that the young rapper will never get to see his baby son grow up.
