Not the cars
Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee came out to an anti-Valentine’s Day-style surprise last night. The rapper found that a woman in his life had covered his cars in melted chocolate.
“Somebody left me a gift and s**t,” he said, pulling a small box off chocolates off the hood of his suddenly sticky car. “I appreciate that.”
He posted another video showing a second car being hosed down.
“My other car, too?” he said. “Appreciate that. Appreciate that. Happy Valentine’s Day, you know what I’m saying? You just can’t extend your arm, you feel me?”
He went even further, calling out the name of the girl who went after his cars… and she wasn’t exactly hard to find. She posted a video of herself vandalizing the cars earlier in the night. In a strange twist ending, however, Marlisia posted the next morning while in the shower with Swae Lee. Apparently, things are all patched up.
“Right where I belong,” she wrote. “Morning showers are the best.”
Outside of his rides, things are going well for Swae. He’s been able to parlay his hits with Slim Jxmmi into guest spots on other people’s tracks and he’s hard at work on the group’s third album, which will be massive in sales and actual size.
According to Mike WiLL, SremmLife 3 will be a triple-disc set made up of two solo albums and a disk of the group together. The group who compared themselves to the Beatles just looked at what Outkast did in the mid-’00s and said “Nah, bigger.”
“We got the Swae Lee, Swaecation, [Slim] Jxmmi’s Jxmtroduction, and then the Rae Sremmurd side,” the producer explained to Pitchfork.
“SremmLife three is a Triple disk one side RaeSremmurd , one side Slim Jxmmi, and one side Swae Lee wanted to put a twist on this album,” Swae confirmed in a tweet.
The group said that the album would be out in January, but clearly we’ve blown past that. Maybe they got caught up recording playoff ads?
The fact that they’d want to release as much material as possible is not surprising, both because the streaming landscape incentivizes albums to be as long as possible and one of their heroes was known for tossing out tons of tracks.
See the Proof
In a recent interview with Montreality, the group gushed about how much they love Lil Wayne.
“Man, Lil Wayne is one of my favorite artists for real, he made me appreciate lyrics,” said Slim Jxmmi. “It was just tight the way he rapped, he knew how to swag over a track and say something at the same time, and his lyrics were always off the chain.”
To demonstrate, Jimmy rapped his favorite lines from his remix of “Upgrade U” on Da Drought 3:
“Sittin’ in the coupe, lookin’ like a racer
Top peeled back like the skin of a potato
Seat way back, listenin’ to Anita Baker
Ridin’ by myself, smokin’ weed by the acre”
The group said that Lil Wayne also gave him confidence, which is necessary to create an album like SremmLife.
“Lil Wayne let me know that I could be the s**t as a lil n**ga,” he said in an archival clip. “This n**ga let me know lil n**gas is the s**t if they got confidence. I been short all my life.”
