Has Jay-Z been hiding a child?
According to 24-year-old Rymir Satterthwaite and his family, the Roc Nation artist has been ducking and dodging a paternity test for eight years. Satterthwaite says that he doesn’t want money from his alleged father. Rather he is seeking justice and a fair court process.
“I just want him to finally tell the truth to the world,” Satterthwaite told The Sun.
The rapper has not acknowledged or responded to the allegations that he’s a father-of-four rather than three. Regardless, they’re live and slowly gaining more attention.
Satterthwaite’s mom Wanda says her and the hip-hop mogul slept together in ’92. According to the mom — who gave up custody of her son to her mother after she became sick — by the time she learned she was pregnant, Jay’s success had made him hard to get in touch with.
Wanda admits that the two did use protection, but it failed. According to Wanda’s mother, Lillie, “Wanda was only 16 when she allegedly met Shawn but she may have told him she was older. She fell pregnant but had no idea how to contact him.”
“In the beginning when we first reached to Shawn’s team, we reached out in love, and we wrote a letter,” she went on. “I got a call from his in-house lawyer and they were very helpful and we thought we would resolve this privately – they even talked about Rymir’s music talent and whether it was a good time to put him on his record label but he had to finish high school so I said no. Suddenly different lawyers got involved and their attitude completely changed – I think they realized there was more at stake for Shawn given that Wanda was allegedly underage.”
She then revealed that the family “put in legal requests for both Shawn and Robert to take paternity tests in Philadelphia.”
Robert is the man Wanda was dating when Satterthwaite was born. The Sun reported that Robert Graves’ name was on Satterthwaite’s birth certificate before a negative DNA test led to it being removed.
“Her on-off boyfriend at the time, Robert, knew the baby wasn’t his but put his name on the birth certificate while Wanda was unconscious recovering from the birth,” Lillie said. “Over the years she tried to get in touch with Shawn but Robert always stopped her. In 2009 she came to me and asked me to help get in touch with Shawn and sort the situation out.”
Afterwards Lillie told The Sun that “Robert did his [paternity test] and was found not to be the father but Shawn’s request was not processed due to procedural problems. Since then there has just been a whole bunch of mistakes, oversights and collusion between our lawyers and Shawn’s lawyers – which is why we have to fight back. And we’re not giving up.”
“This has become about more than just Jay-Z and the paternity test – it’s about people being fairly treated by the legal system no matter how much money they have,” Lillie added.
The family has filed a suit, which is slated to go to trail in December. The paperwork says the case has been “devastating,” stating that “Rymir the then-child suffered the pain of rejection, fraud and collusion.”
Satterthwaite spoke to The Sun himself, saying, “Honestly I believe anybody else in this world would have had to take the test.”
