Don't go after his tools
It looks like there’s some serious tension brewing on the set of Black Ink Crew: Chicago. The tattoo artist Van walked into his space at 9Mag to find that it had been absolutely trashed by Rachel, the girlfriend of 9Mag owner Ryan Henry.
Van posted a video of the mess and promised that Rachel was going to pay what she owed. Now, it wouldn’t be gentlemanly to threaten a lady, so it looks like Van is siccing his girlfriend on her instead.
“Jen gonna take care of you tho, lil bih,” he wrote on top of the video of his ruined workstation. “Ain’t nothing you gonna be able to do to stop her, Rach.”
There’s no word yet on what started the beef, but if we’ve already reached the point of destroyed spaces, these problems aren’t likely to go away easily.
Ryan Henry, for his part, is struggling with the way in which he’s representing himself and his city on the show. The dramatics and fights aren’t a good look — even if they’re good for ratings — and he recently came to terms with that in a very public way.
Spurred into action by a photo of Chance the Rapper and former President Barack Obama, Henry promised to be better in the future.
“I started 9mag with a goal of uplifting everyone around me selflessly. Watched it go to sh*t. I started a show with the intent to grow everyone I was around and stay united forever. That died. Took on a platform of BS to change views of my city to outsiders and do natives here justice, now it’s become coonery based on failure, lies and faults,” he wrote. “Which I want no part of further underlying emasculating of myself and other black men LEADERS as weak, abusive, disrespectful, etc, outside of humanly mistakes.”
He closed with a promise to get everything on the right track and use 9Mag as a force for good. But it looks like the drama might just suck him back in.
Outside of Henry, there’s further relationship drama in Chicago’s shop. Ashley and Don Brumfield split after the latter was found to be stepping out. He apologized for philandering in a post to his Instagram.
“I wanna start this post by saying I love you Ashley Brumfield and I apologize for hurting you and disappointing you once again,” he began the post. “We have been working on Don and Ashley for 6 years. Our lives have created two amazing boys and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”
“Our lives have been lived in the public eye these past 3 years and I have publicly embarrassed my wife, my family, and my team who all believed in me. I can’t ask my wife to forgive me once again. All I can do is work on myself to be a better husband to you, Ashley and allow you to heal,” he continued.
Don promised to be a better example to his children in the future, mostly for the sake of his kids and family. “I have to be a better example of a man to [my sons],” he said as well as expressing his desire to show his daughter “how a man supposed to honor and respect her.” He continued by saying that his actions haven’t reflected that desire and ended with an apology to his family. “I love you guys and I promise to make it better,” he wrote.
Ashley isn’t trying to hear it, though. Her only response to the apology was to confirm that they had split.
