When Jeezy makes an announcement, the streets listen. Yesterday, the Snowman took to social media with a heartfelt letter discussing achieving success as a black man in America without compromising his morals and beliefs and compared himself metaphorically to a black cat. In the address, Jeezy announced he plans on dropping a new album in 2013.
Here’s our favorite part of the public service announcement:
“I’m just a Black man that came from nothing who was never given anything and for that matter, never asked for anything. But I was willing to sacrifice my freedom and my livelihood for my beliefs. And that act alone it (sic) what’s makes us GODS…. This is coming from a place of passion and not ignorance. To Be Continued… Friday, November 13th.”
While his letter alone may have delivered a strong message, the single he dropped to accompany the announcement is exactly what hip-hop needs right now. Listen to it below.
Jeezy lives up to the hype with the first single off of his upcoming album. The Atlanta rapper dropped a song titled “God” and it definitely lives up to its name. Throughout the song, Jeezy reinforces his status as a legend in the hood.
If there’s more of this to come, we’re definitely excited for his new album. Hopefully Jeezy can continue to turn water into wine over sinister hard-hitting instrumentals. Stream “God” below.
