It was the summer of 1996 and Nas was already picking up a lot of momentum with his sophomore album It Was Written. The Queens MC decided to take a different approach for the lead single off the release by dropping an epic video based off of Martin Scorsese’s popular mafia film Casino. Nas enlisted famed hip hop video director Hype Williams to direct the visuals, which were filmed in Las Vegas.

The climatic video featured cameos from Massachusettes-born actor Frank Vincent and former Miss USA Kenya Moore. The money that Nas decided to invest in the production for “Street Dreams” proved to be a good move since the single was his first song to enter the Top 50 on the Billboard 100 charts, peaking at the #22 spot.
