I can’t believe it’s been this long already. Rewind 25 years ago (as it first aired on TV today) and there’s not many shows that have put hip-hop urban culture in the forefront like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. In addition to The Cosby Show, the show featured a rare depiction of affluent African Americans in pop culture. Two and a half decades later, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has touched the lives of many, and thanks to syndication holds no prejudice of generation gaps.

Will Smith has become one of the world’s biggest actors ever since his six season run on the series. If you think we’re overhyping the cultural relevance of the show, we bet you play the first line of the infamous intro track and people of all ages will rap along verbatim. Even though the world loves The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the coming of age comedy will also mean more to hip-hop.
